MICHELLE GRIFFITHS
Born and raised in New Zealand to a Seychelloise mother and British father, Michelle Griffiths elected to study Art (Practical) and the History of Art at High School and continued her studies at Edith Cowan University in Australia, earning an AVD Dip in the Production and Design of Performing Arts.
Later she completed a secondment with the Western Australian Ballet – working on the production and construction of costumes and was mentored by the renown costumier - Bill Miles. Griffiths has lived and worked in Australia, France, Greece and the UK and is now permanently based in Seychelles, working as a full-time artist from her studio at Providence, Mahe.
Michelle Griffiths works comfortably across the two zones of craft and fine art, producing functional, utilitarian pieces as well as conventionally hung art, mostly fabric based but with some painting and mixed media output. In 2006 she founded her fine craft business and launched her brand – ‘Lionfish Seychelles’ in 2010 - Currently she channels her creative energies into her new venture “Kiwikoko” a unique handmade jewellery line, alongside running Lionfish Seychelles and creating fine artworks.
