MARC LUC

Born in 1959, Mahe, Seychelles.
During the period 1978 – 1985 Luc studied art in Limoges, France. Since 1985 he has lectured in fine art at the Seychelles Institute for Art and Design, exhibiting widely in Seychelles and overseas (notably Mauritius, India, Portugal and France) throughout his tenure.

In 1975, at the age of 16, Marc Luc received official recognition as an artist for the first time, with his paintings exhibited in Victoria/Mahe. Before receiving a scholarship to study art, he spent time with the internationally acclaimed painter Michael Adams, the 'Gauguin of the Seychelles'. In 1979 he began his studies at the Ecole d'Art decoratif de Limoges in France and returned to his homeland after 6 years with the 'Diplome Nationale Superieur d'Espression'. In 1985 he began teaching at the Polytechnic, Mont Fleuri, Mahe and later joined the faculty of SIAD.
In his paintings Marc Luc captures the dynamics of movement, the colour tones of music and the atmosphere of the motif. He is inspired by abstract expressionist painters such as De Kooning, Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline. He paints with large, dynamic, precisely accentuated brushstrokes, capturing the colours of Seychellois light and Seychellois joie de vivre. In their richness of contrast and their composition, the pictures are a constant treasure trove of new impulses and perspectives.
