EGBERT MARDAY

Egbert Marday is one of the foremost visual artists working in Seychelles.
His reputation as a prolific sculptor and painter of importance led to him being awarded the Lifetime Achievement Seychelles Arts Award in 2019. Marday was born in 1953, in Victoria, Mahe, Seychelles, and was, after completing schooling at the Seychelles College, awarded a Bachelor in Fine Art, Universities of Concordia, Montreal, and Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada in 1988. This marked a new direction, as prior to this Marday had qualified as a teacher of science (BSc Biology, NELP (University of East London), UK, 1977 – followed by a one year Post Graduate Certificate of Education at Reading University, UK. After six years of teaching Marday committed to creative work as a self-employed freelance artist, a path he has followed ever since.
