CAMILLE MONDON

Camille Mondon is another eclectic Seychelles artist. His main body of work comprises beautifully observed and rendered scenes from Seychelles life, which often depict a domesticity now lost, in a romantic and nostalgic manner.
Many of these scenes emanate from his own recollections of how life used to be; they also possess important archival qualities because their accuracy and integrity of content are profound.
Mondon also creates abstract works, incorporating found natural forms such as tree branches to create intriguing sculptural wall hangings. Other works show the artist's strong sense of detail and care applied to flatter sculpted abstracts which, in common with the branch-based work, relate to concepts such as calm and peace which in turn of course link to the local environment and the source of inspiration for the artist's more formal figurative work.

Camille Mondon releases limited editions of his original paintings, but it is his watercolour compositions which bear the evidence of something which has been widely discussed within art criticism circles – the hand. These primary works are first generation statements of great dexterity. They bear witness to a confident deployment of colour and water, as well as their subjects.
